Every day, millions of people live their lives with some form of vision impairment. In order to achieve the 20/20 vision needed to see properly, most people use prescription lenses, in the form of glasses or contacts. But – did you know that there are other solutions, as well? If you would like to consider other alternatives, then consider having a Las Vegas LASIK screening completed.
Some vision impairment problems stem from differences in the shape of the cornea, the part of the eye that rests directly over the pupil. The cornea acts very much like the lens of a camera, in that its curvature affects how light passes through it, dictating the clarity of the images that we see. An eye with perfect vision will have an evenly dome-shaped cornea. For those with a vision impairment problem, the eyes likely have differently shaped corneas. For instance, if one is nearsighted, then the corneas are likely shaped more conically than usual. The greater the deviation of one’s eye from the “perfect” eye shape, the stronger the prescription lenses must be to correct the deviation. Prescription lenses aim to correct vision problems by providing the eye with an additional lens to see through – one that is calibrated to allow you to see clearly and focus with ease. LASIK surgery, however, seeks to correct this problem by reshaping the cornea completely, creating the dome shape necessary for unassisted 20/20 vision. Our eye doctor, Shannon Chandler, O.D. can provide you with a Las Vegas LASIK screening to determine whether LASIK surgery is a viable option. If it is, she will provide you with a referral to a LASIK surgeon for the procedure.
A Las Vegas LASIK screening with Shannon Chandler, O.D. will help determine whether your eyes are healthy enough for the procedure, and whether they will heal once the procedure is completed. If you would like to learn more, please call to schedule an appointment with Shannon Chandler, O.D. today.
