Contact Lenses Las Vegas

Perhaps the most fun part of a visit to Shannon Chandler, O.D., is picking out eyeglass frames or the type of contact lenses you want to wear. It is often assumed that the criteria for making these selections is entirely based on comfort and personal taste (i.e. how you look in them). But our Las Vegas optometrist wants you to know that your choice of contact lenses and eyeglass frames can also impact your vision. That’s why we’re here to help you find just the right ones for you – that feel good, look good, and let you see as well as possible.

It may not seem like it, but the way you wear your eyeglasses can either support or thwart your efforts at optimal vision. For one thing, the way the prescription lens sits in the frame is essential, and choosing the correct shape of frame can be helpful to meeting this goal. In addition, the placement of the lens is customized because your face shape is unique. One size fits all is not a philosophy for eyeglasses. When your prescription lenses are centered perfectly, your vision is crisper and clearer.

In general, most people can wear either soft contact lenses or hard (gas-permeable) contact lenses to correct for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Hard contact lenses tend to provide sharper vision, while soft lenses are considered to be more comfortable. Our Las Vegas optometrist now offers hybrid lenses, contacts that are rigid at the center and soft around the edges. These hybid lenses are also available in a bifocal option.

The way your contacts fit on your eyes is vital to your vision because if they do not line up as intended, the prescription is not giving you the maximum benefit. Perhaps most important, uncomfortable lenses may spend less time in your eyes and more time in their case. That’s why we work hard to make sure that your contact lenses are right for you and comfortable.

If you would like more information on the various types of frames or lenses that are available, be sure to schedule an appointment with our Las Vegas optometrist, Dr. Chandler. We look forward to discussing all your eye care needs.

It is a well-known fact that your vision changes over time. Perhaps at one time you did not need to wear corrective lenses, but now you can’t drive or watch television without using your prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses. You may have an optical prescription, but is it up to date? Make an appointment to come see our Las Vegas eye doctor, Shannon Chandler, O.D., to find out. A yearly eye exam is recommended for everyone, whether you wear corrective lenses or not, but it is even more important for those of you with prescriptions.

Optical Exams Las Vegas

Optical Exams Las Vegas

When you first received your contacts or glasses, our Las Vegas eye doctor gave you a thorough exam and determined that you needed help with nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, presbyopia, or some combination of these refractive disorders. After Dr. Chandler wrote you your optical prescription, you soon were enjoying much improved eyesight, without the difficulty and eye strain you were previously experiencing. As your eyes change, though, that original prescription may become less effective or even ineffective in correcting the problem it was written to address.

You might be thinking, “So what? I may not see as well as before, but it is no big deal.” It is a big deal though. In the course of your busy days, you might not be aware that those tension headaches have begun to return because your eyes are straining to see. If your eyeglasses or contacts are required for driving, using an out of date prescription can be downright dangerous. An eye exam with our Las Vegas eye doctor will ensure that your current glasses or contacts are adequate or that your prescription is updated to fulfill your new vision requirements.

If you need any further motivation to come in for an eye exam, remember that in addition to keeping your prescription up to date, our Las Vegas eye doctor will be screening you for common eye diseases and problems. If these conditions are detected in their early stages, treatment options are more plentiful and tend to be most successful. Call us today and schedule your annual eye exam.

A friendly reminder: It’s nearing the end of the year, so don’t forget to use your vision benefits.

Early detection of most eye diseases and conditions makes it easier to treat, and also makes treatment more effective. If you have your eyes examined regularly by our Las Vegas optometrist, Dr. Chandler is more likely to detect any eye conditions you may have developed at an early stage and then recommend the most effective treatment options. We recommend that you visit us for a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. During the exam, which usually takes about one hour, our Las Vegas optometrist will administer a series of tests. The standard tests include: a slit lamp examination, a refraction test, a testing of your intraocular pressure, which can be indicative of glaucoma, and a retinal exam. Further testing may be recommended based on the results of these initial exams. If you wear contact lenses, you also need a contact lens exam regularly to test the accuracy of your prescription and the fit of your lenses.

To learn more about the eye exams and other helpful services offered by Dr. Chandler, we encourage you to visit our Las Vegas optometrist website for additional information.
